Methylphenidate (Ritalin/Concerta) wearing off

Posted by zonked on January 29, 2010, at 13:34:50

Hey,

As I pointed out in a previous post, I'm taking Concerta 36mg (time release ritalin) - according to the monograph the peak plasma levels due to the time release mechanism was ~6 hours - however, I find that the initial effects wear off after about 4. After 4 hours, I get VERY irritable and "wired" in a way that is not productive or pleasant (norepinepherine vs. dopamine?). I am wondering if the release mechanism just isn't very even, or if my brain "runs out" of usable dopamine at that time.

Anything I can do about this? Are there dopamine precursor amino acids that might help?

I am still going through the Medicaid process to get Dexedrine spansules and/or Adderall XR approved, which also has unpleasant wear-off effects but not nearly as soon.

thx
