In reply to off-label uses for zolmitriptan, 5-ht1b/d agonist?, posted by iforgotmypassword on October 26, 2009, at 15:08:09

Might lend itself to creative uses. According to Wikipedia the 5ht1b receptor is inhibitory and effects:
* Addiction[31]
* Aggression[11]
* Anxiety[32][33][34]
* Learning[35]
* Locomotion[36]
* Memory[35]
* Mood[34]
* Penile Erection[23]
* Sexual Behavior[26]
* Vasoconstriction
And mice lacking the gene for the receptor show "an increase of aggression and a higher preference for alcohol." If I read this correctly, an agonist would stimulate inhibition of that list of effects - e.g. make memory worse. Is that correct?
In one study, another agonist of 5ht1b shows both anxyolitic and antidepressive effects.
Interestingly, pindolol is an antagonist and shows some antidepressant effects, at least in augmentation.
Anyone know more?
