Disrupted Dopaminergic Neurotransmission (article)

Posted by Garnet71 on August 14, 2009, at 20:21:23

So 1 out of 4000-5000 people have this problem. The link below appears to allow access to all articles in the Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology for free.

I can't read this whole thing, but there are a lot of dopamine seekers on this site who may be interested. lol. Maybe someone can better synthesize this information and report back to us and tell us if they think it applies to any of us.

My grandmother had schitzophrenia, so I always thought I somehow carried the gene that's messing with my dopamine. Maybe I have the "22q11 Deletion syndrome". Hey-1 out of 4000/5000 is not that rare; probably a lot of those are here on this site.

Disrupted Dopaminergic Neurotransmission in 22q11 Deletion Syndrome

22q11 Deletion syndrome (22q11DS) or velo-cardio-facial syndrome is caused by a microdeletion on the long arm of chromosome 22 and occurs in approximately 1 out of every 40005000 live births (Oskarsdottir et al, 2004; Scambler, 2000). The syndrome is associated with multiple congenital malformations and cognitive deficits (Goldberg et al, 1993; Henry et al, 2002). In addition, people with 22q11DS are at increased risk of developing psychiatric disorders including schizophrenia-like psychosis, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and anxiety disorders (Baker and Skuse, 2005; Fine et al, 2005; Gothelf et al, 2004; Murphy et al, 1999; Niklasson et al, 2001)......
