Tianeptine is habit-forming

I'm still on Stablon (since March 2005). I quit for three months (September 2008 - December 2008) and was okay, but couldn't resist staying off it for some odd reason.

Anyway, when I went back on Stablon after a three month break, I expected the usual side effects as was the case when I first took it in March 2005. That didn't happen...little or no side effects and not much therapeutic effect, although it did help with depression, but only briefly.

I did move to a house that is very dark in December and I feel that this triggered my SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) to come back and perhaps this is more to blame than Stablon.

How would you feel if you were agoraphobic and lived in a dark house all the time, never leaving? Would you be depressed too? Perhaps.

Really, I'm going to go straight to the point. Stablon, to me, is very, very habit-forming, and this only happened after being on it for at least 12 months. I also feel an urge to gamble (even though I've never gambled before) and date lots of women, but I've refrained from either of these activities, partly due to agoraphobia and OCD.

I feel like if I had more money, I would just keep increasing the dosage until the depression was gone and also to feel a psychostimulant effect.

I had to admit, if I take 2 tablets or crowd the doses, I will feel a pleasant, but mild, psychostimulant effect which lasts about 60-90 minutes, after which I feel normal but sometimes sleepy or mildly tired.

If you felt that feeling you would likely want to repeat it. It depends on how much self control you have.

To put it into perspective, I've never raised my dose of Xanax and have no desire to. I haven't had a drink in 12 years and quit smoking cannabis 18 years ago. I have no problem staying away from alcohol and no cravings for Xanax. In fact, I am interested in lowering the dose.

When it comes to Stablon, it just has a subtle effect...subtle like nicotine, but not exactly like that..but slightly. Remember though that nicotine, although subtle in its effects, is one of the most addictive substances known to science.

I definitely feel this drug is habit forming to say the least and can understand why 141 people have abused this substance, taking upwards of 240 tablets a day (not sure how they could afford that! hehheh).

My experience is not going to be the same as others and this drug is definitely beneficial for panic disorder, anxiety and mild to moderate depression, but keep in mind the possibility of dependence or even addiction to this drug, Stablon (tianeptine).

There is some evidence now that it boosts metenkephalin (endorphins) and affects the mu-opioid receptors (mildly).

All I know is the mild stimulant effect is very pleasant! lol Beware too about becoming a compulsive gambler or sexaholic. LOL! Anything is possible when a drug boosts dopamine in the nucleus accumbens, however mildly it does so.

Don't say I didn't warn you in advance. :-)
