The taste test?

Posted by ricker on January 18, 2009, at 14:43:30

This may seem totally off the wall, but I've been wondering if anyone has read/heard of studies using taste as a specific marker for treatment?

We're all pretty much clones when it comes to our brain's perception with our other senses, but with taste, we can be quite unique, just as the way we respond to various meds.

For example, a case study with 100 participants are followed with individual taste being the significant factor. In the group, 25 people have an overwhelming liking for sour tasting foods while others may lean more towards sweets. Our brain instantly receives the taste and reacts in either a positive or negative way.
Perhaps 10 of the 100 participants crave hot and spicy, might they all respond the same with a MAOI while 25 other with a liking for sour respond to an snri?

Hey, remember my first statement...it may seem off the wall.... but I had to ask :-)
