~~~ Yep, toxemia modernly refers to hypertension during pregnancy - more modernly as PIH (pregnancy induced hypertension) or Pre-Eclampsia. Its more severe form can proceed to Eclampsia.

Toxemia can refer to bacteria and/or their toxins in the blood which is more recently referred to as septicemia. Most deaths from septicemia are a result of septic shock and/or multi-organ failure.
