Experiences with atypical psychotropics

Posted by Bob on July 31, 2008, at 17:48:15

Has anyone else on this board had a lot of trouble with newer meds that claim to use novel mechanisms such as glutamate, calcium or sodium ions etc? These drugs have given me some of the worst experiences of my hellish journey, sometimes after a deceptive, blissful little honeymoon where it seems to be helping.

Anyway, these are some of the drugs that have given me the scariest times, often with significant suicidality. They are in not particular order.

Topomax
Neurontin
Lamictal
Tegretol
All benzos with downward dose fluctuation
Provigil (Modafanil)
Riluzole

It seems like the newer and more novel the drug, the worse it is for me. I just don't understand it, since the old drugs suck too and so many people seem to be helped by the newer ones. It makes me fearful to try new drugs.
