Tianeptine + MAOI?

Posted by uncouth on July 23, 2008, at 17:59:58

I'm currently on tianeptine 12.5 3x daily and seeing OK results, and no side effects.

Know it's an SSRE, and curious as to whether there are any interactions between taking tianeptine plus an MAOI like Nardil or Parnate. Looking to start one of those soon, and would prefer to stay on tianeptine for it's unique neurogenesis and anti-stress effects if I can.

Seems like tianeptine doesn't cause acute increases in serotonin in the synapse like an SSRI, but may have long term effects that increase serotonin transmission in certain regions.

My understanding is that the real danger is acute increases in serotonin at the synapse for combining with MAOIs, leading to serotonin syndrome. Seems like tianeptine doesn't have that problem.

Anyone have any experience or knowledge?
