I would say "less sedating" rather than "more activating."
If you're looking for an older med with milder side effects, I would suggest desipramine (Norpramin) or nortriptyline (Pamelor). Or perhaps an MAOI like Nardil or Parnate (Nardil can cause weight gain though).
What sort of depression do you tend to have? Also, which meds do you mean by "SNRIs?"
