'Growing Up Bipolar' in Newsweek

Posted by yxibow on June 6, 2008, at 4:44:18

I was wondering what people with BPI/II or any biochemical disorder had read or reacted to Newsweek's recent article "Growing Up Bipolar"

http://www.newsweek.com/id/137517

(ads are heavy in newsweek, may take time to load, plus their forums are similar)

I'm not personally BP, and the difference between the onset of my major disorder(s) at puberty and not age 0 is a definite distinction but I had some mixed reactions --- on one hand it seemed a painted outlook of gloom on the future, something nobody can predict, on the other hand the article ended on a more hopeful note. I guess I could resonate on a more general note

It would have been nice to have some MD specialists attached to the article as it was a feature story, but they did mention some presumably professional child psychiatrists in the article.
