I had some problems on stopping Effexor but I did go from 150mg one day to 0mg the next - when I ran out. It wasn't too bad but I did feel dizzy for a couple of weeks, similar to stopping paroxetine. It felt like the ground was moving. Nothing drastic for me. Had some random rushes of emotion eg. when watching something sad on the tele.
