I've used them all with Nardil at one time or another. Trazodone was probably the best of the three for Nardil induced insomnia. But it gave me a really drugged out feeling, even in the late morning.The only TCA I've mixed with Nardil is nortriptyline. This also helps with insomnia. I believe I am a fast metabolizer of TCAs. Blood tests while taking nortriptyline and desipramine were neve close to the therapeautic window. There is some evidence that a TCA with Nardil will help reduce the chance of a tyramine reaction. I would not recomend trying this.
I've been on bupropion several times. It seems to help with the weight gain and daytime tiredness brought on by Nardil. It does seem to give me more energy, probably because of the dopamine. I haven't used the XL brand but I've read that it is a lot more subtle than bupropion or the SR version. When I first start bupropion I become somewhat agressive, again probably the dopamine. I am normally fairly mild mannered but the first few weeks on bupropion is different. Finding a doctor who will prescribe bupropion with Nardil may be difficult. There is a lot more research using the TCAs with Nardil than bupropion with Nardil.
