Deplin could mask a B12 deficiency. It doesnt cause it.

I want somebody to chase down the loose ends on the whole alcoholism depression and anemia thing. They seem interwoven in some way. Anemia drugs are often tested on chronic alcoholics, because they are all anemic. And I bet they are depressed too. It makes me very curious about L-Methylfolate and other nutritional implications for mental illness.

Is there some common thread amongst alcoholics like an inability to metabolize folates? Bill Wilson used to get Niacin injections. Niacin is a B vitamin. He had terrible depression. He called it despondency. Makes you wonder. I want them to try the Deplin on A) alcoholics and B) depressed people not even taking other meds and C) anemic people.

It could be that even if you are eating all the iron you can get it can't bind to the red blood cells with out some precursor like L-Methylfolate. If your body for some reason can't make L-Methylfolate very well then folic acid and other B's are no help. Hence you have depression and are at greater risk to abuse alcohol and if so become anemic.

You could work that sequence several other ways as well.

I know this is the medication board but Deplin does require a prescription.
