Things that have helped me...

Posted by Julia X on December 24, 2007, at 3:35:41

Hey,
I have been off the cymbalta for about 3 weeks, after being on it for two years. This has literally been HELL for me, but finally searching out these sites has helped me so much. Now I just stay up because of the weird sleeping problems that cymbalta has left me with as opposed to thinking I had a brain tumor.
Anyways, I wanted to let people know about some things that have helped me through this a little. Its important to understand that cymbalta is stored in the fat cells, so the idea is to get those fat cells out of your body. There are a number of ways to do this. Excersize being the biggest one, but I think we all know that that can be impossible with the dizziness, however, when you arent having a dizzy spell, a brisk walk is helpfull. B-12 seems to have helped me a lot. I get the kind that is liquid and dissolves under the tongue, I think the liquid is more easily absorbed, plus its fast acting. B-12 hypes up your immune system = more fat cells leaving your body. St.Johns wort has helped with my mood, my spirits have seemed higher for the most part (last week I was contemplating suicide, ...seriously). Water, water, water. The more you pee, the more cymbalta leaves your body. NO CAFFEINE. Its not good, and neither is pot or alcohol. I have tried them, its true. I have heard that spirulina, or wheatgrass juice is helpfull as well, but I have yet to try it.
Remember that you ARE NOT ALONE, YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONES GOING THROUGH THIS, IT WILL GET BETTER. Watch funny movies, read books, try to get your mind off of personal stresses and concentrate on CLEANSING your body. When you find yourself idealizing suicide, realize that this is part of the side effects, and try to push through that mood and on to the next, I know this is hard, but you really do have to just go through the motions. I took an LOA from school, because of the extreme nausea and dizziness. I am hoping to be totally back to normal by mid-Jan in order to go back. If its a possibility to do this with work or school, I HIGHLY suggest it. This may keep you from failing or losing a job, and in most cases its very hard to work, not knowing how you are going to feel from one moment to the next. My brain zaps have decreased, and everyday I spend a little bit less time feeling nauseas. Oh, also, avoid stores that are jam packed with stuff. Sensory-overload seems to set off the dizziness like no other. JUST DO WHAT YOU CAN TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF! This is a time to be selfish, everything else can wait. Any added stresses on top of this could be very detrimental. And dont worry, my doctor thinks this is all in my head too. No one in the medical field seems to know what brain zaps are, and they all claim that they have never heard of such complications of withdrawal. I have only been reffered to social workers at the several times I went to the ER, demanding for some kind of help.
--Hang in there, you are not alone, and you will feel better--
