Switching from one generic to another

Posted by sukarno on December 3, 2007, at 5:07:14

Hi everyone. I recently had to switch from one generic to another. The drug in question is diazepam (Valium). I didn't think there would be a difference and felt ok for a few days but since yesterday I've been having hyperventilating spells, which are a symptom of my panic disorder returning. I had to take my 5mg dose (I'm on 5mg three times a day) earlier than usual because of hyperventilation and anxiety.

I was taking one generic made by a company called Phapros and now am on one made by Kimia Farma, both are Indonesian companies that manufacture generics.

I have heard that generics can differ in terms of bioavailability, but never thought this would happen with diazepam since it is so long-acting.

Have any folks here had problems when switching from one generic to another generic?

Thanks,
Paul
