>I'm addicted to it (70s speak here)
In my general experience, that's still 21st century speak, and I'm angered as to my suspicions why. I suspect the main reason docs prefer to push SSRI'S as a first line treatment is to avoid confronting the guilt of knowing the wonderful world of science has failed on this front, with a drug from the 50's still being the most effective short and long term anxiety treatment.
I'm tired of their SSRI BS. That stuff is not addictive or does not have risks/complications outweighing the benefits? PLEASE, someone lead me to an effective med to replace my clonazepam for chronic anxiety treatment and I'll gladly switch. The most recent Remeron trial hasn't convinced me of anything except the ability to oversleep and gain weight. Until they find a replacement, I'll stay "addicted" thanks.
I think I'll give Buspar a try, but I'm skeptical.>33 years, I'm embarrassed to say, PJ.
Never be embarrassed about gaining relief. It's your life, not the medical community's or anyone else. If anyone should be embarrassed, it's the science/medical community for what I believe to be not taking anxiety disorder research/treatment seriously. IMO they deal with it in a middle age fashion. I'm convinced that once they start to put proper effort into research, they'll discover a biological/genetic origin which causes our brains to improperly regulate the relaxation response that keeps the fight or flight response at bay and in proper working order. I'm sure of it. I believe some recent research has already pointed in this direction.
Sorry for the frustration and good luck with your ordeal. I missed, but do you take anything other than diazepam? Have you ever tried Buspar?
