There are a wide variety of mood stabilizing medications out there, though, and it's just as likely that you could take one of the others successfully. You've written about your pdoc in the past in such a way that I wonder if he's a bit conservative in his choices? Still, lithium is a good choice, since it's often the most reliably effective medication available. Be sure to limit your salt intake if you take it.
I am going to ask you a direct question now, and I hope you will answer it. (I don't expect, only hope.) Is there a reason you continue to see this doctor, rather than getting a second opinion somewhere? It seems to me that your behavior on these boards might indicate that your disorder is not well controlled, and perhaps a new set of eyes could help with that? Just an idea.
