Are AD's causing me to rapid cycle? - To Ron Hill

Posted by AnneL on September 18, 2007, at 9:56:26

Hi Ron,
Let me answer your questions to the best of my ability.

Test #1 for BP disorder: Yes to many of the questions.

Test #2 - I need to print out the test and take it. I reviewed the questions and I have not looked at page 2. The things that strike me right now is mental/motor retardation, anxiety, waking up early in the morning and being unable to get back to sleep.

History: Rx'd Effexor by my old GP because of some serious depression. I was completely oblivious to problems in my household because I was over-exercising, restricting my food intake, and sleeping maybe 4 hours a night and getting up early to go running. My 13 year old at the time had suicidal ideation and was hospitalized. This caused me great depression at what I had allowed to happen in my own family.

Meds other than Effexor/Abilify: Few days on Celexa (Panic/Akasthesia), few days on very low dose Prozac (Revved up feeling). A pdoc I saw dx'd me as BP II and titrated me up to 200 mg. of Lamictal and I had intense anger problems on it. He thought it could be a "disinhibiting" effect of Lamictal and Klonopin.

I have tried Wellbutrin (Akasthesia) x 1 week, and low-dose Zyprexa (2.5 mg.) for one week without any problems except I was afraid to gain weight.

I have tried Lithium 900 mg. and I don't recall any side effects except thirst. I think I was on the lithium for about 1 month. I stopped it because I did not think I needed it (?).

Mental disorders in family: Depression in mother and father. I think both could be BP II.

I selected my current pdoc because she treated my daughter for her anorexia. I think she is capable and very smart. She is open to ideas.

I got down to 37.5 mg. of Effexor and was doing great from the standpoint of discontinuation effects but then I got hit heavy with depression and went back up to 75 mg.

The only thing that gets me out of the toilet is Provigil 100 mg. (1/2 tablet). AnneL
