Halcion is triazolam, a benzodiazapine. It's most often prescribed as a sleep aid (hypnotic), but it is also similar in action to some benzos used for surgical sedation. It's used in dental surgeries, for example, as it works synergistically with local anaesthesia for pain control. It sounds like your pain doctor is offering you just the right way to manage this anxiety about the procedure.

I've been getting injections into my spine every three weeks for some time now. Really, there is no treatment they can offer you that has as few side effects.

Just tell them there is no reason for you to see the needle ever again. Just let them do their thing.
