Colon cleansing is sheer quackery. Just ask any gastroenterolgist. People who swear by it are generally obsessed or uncomfortable with their poop in some way (which is a symptom of hypochrondria, btw). Frequently a characteristic middle class to upper class neurosis involving deep seated shame and fear of the body and its natural processes. My guess is that they feel ashamed of their dirty poo and want to be clean.

Your colon is not clean and will never be clean. It is not supposed to be. There are billions of bacteria in there, which are mostly harmless and necessary for digestion.

And no.. no matter what they tell you, your colon does not retain years of built up "mucus" that needs to be cleansed. It is sheer weirdness and I will never understand the fascination with it. I think the benefits are mostly psychological.
