Why are the negative studies unpublished?

Why do you only find out after the damage is done that a drug has little effects for a condition that you have been prescibed it?

I too took Lamictal but stopped at 100 twice a day due to memory and balance issues. My pdoc said it was being used for depression with good results else he wouldn't have precribed it. I did refuse to go higher on the dose (may have taken 200 tops) but my SE's scared me too much.

Nevertheless, the side effects led to serious falling events and a susequent neurological workup of M.S. since all of my symptoms on Lamictal were the symptoms of M.S., falling, tingling in my arms, urinary symptoms, memory problems. The only symptom I did not have was optic neuritis, which is the most telltale sign of M.S. I had been reading about the symptoms since my sis in law had just been diagnosed, and I said I have all those symptoms. It was very strange, since I am not usually suggestable to others symptoms, but Lamictal was the culprit. Once stopped all the symptoms gradually went away...

Again, why are the negative studies not published by the researchers or were the researchers on GSK's payroll? anotherwords, not affiliated with the pharma industry?
