Irritability: Is it from anxiety or from Xanax?

Posted by halcyondaze on January 14, 2007, at 11:50:50

Lately I have been experiencing extreme anxiety, for which I have been using Xanax (PRN of .25 or .5, not exceeding 1 mg per day). I've noticed that, when I am NOT taking the Xanax, even if my anxiety is not extremely unbearable, I feel VERY irritable and have been snapping at people and feeling short-tempered and impatient.

Is this a secondary effect of anxiety, or a side effect or rebound effect from Xanax? Anyone have any ideas?[Sorry for all the questions; I am neither accustomed to having anxiety nor to taking benzodiazepine medication.]
