I experienced something approaching euphoria from initial trials
of ritalin and amphetamine- it's different than "happy" or "well being". For one thing, not very normal functionally.

I certainly don't think it's unreasonable to try to attain a state where you're happy much more often than not. Attaining such a state without meds may be the ideal, but using meds to get there isn't wrong, just less advantageous because of side effects.
