After a falling out with my pdoc during which she wanted to add another AD to my regime in order to get me to sleep, I decided 1) to get a new pdoc and maybe a reevaluation of my dx and medication requirements, 2) not to get the prescription filled on the new AD - Pamelor, and 3) that maybe LESS rather than MORE is needed, I made a startling and joyous discovery.
Reducing my Lamictal dosage from 400mg to 300mg has meant that I now fall asleep like an ordinary person, at the end of the day. My anxious thoughts around sleeping have dissipated. I sleep most of the night through, and if I do awake, I easily fall back into sleep.
I wasn't at all certain that I was doing a smart or advisable thing. Reducing a medication without my pdoc's instructions to do so isn't something I would have done if I hadn't been so very desperate. But I managed to make the connection between my lack of sleep to when I was increased to 400mg of Lamictal. I tried splitting the dose, but it had no effect.
I'm just glad for my little Christmas gift to myself of a better night's sleep.
Happy holidays, everyone.
