seroquel is now the "it" neuroleptic for all things bipolar, and also anxiety and sleep. Its densely sedating, causes weight gain, and can contribute to diabetes. It can also cause neuroleptic malignancy syndrome, tardive dyskinesia, and akathisia.

Lamictal can cause a deadly rash now and then, but nothing too crazy. Personally, I say give lamictal (and pretty much any other non-neuroleptic option) a whirl before you try seroquel or any of the other "atypical" neuroleptics.
