If a med helps and doesn't harm, then it makes sense to take it. Ideally, the decision to use or not use a medication should be based on its effectiveness, not on the diagnosis.
I second that, you don't have to be ADHD for Ritalin to calm you down. Stimulants are fantastic feeling drugs but they can be very hard on your system. Often times they make people much more emotional and even depressed after that initial 2-3 week high phase.
