She takes 10mg xr Focalin once a day and is peppy for a few hours by the afternoon, she is flat, very quiet and almost depressed, complains she's bored doesn't seem to find pleasure in things. She has ADD but do you think she has something else going on or is it just the way the meds work?

It almost sounds more like a reaction to the effects wearing off than to the effects of the drug itself. If this were an adult, I would personally tend to be rather wary of increasing the dosage due to the possibility of developing tolerance, but I am by no means an expert on ADD in children. However, perhaps it might be good to at least consider some other med or even the validity of the ADD diagnosis itself as nickguy suggests.
