I was hospitalized for 3 weeks inpatient (and a few weeks of daily visits after that) when i was in the 7th grade. My parents found out that (A) I was practicing self-mutilation - actually a few serious attempts at my life too - but didn't cut deep enough., and (B) that I was anorexic, and had lost about 20 pounds in a month from starvation...

That, and depression was enough to get me sent to the hospital.

My insurance decided I was ready to go before I really was though, so it took me years after that to fully recover.

It's been 6 years since I recovered from anorexia, and a few years since i've done myself physical harm.

Actually, it was my boyfriend who made me quit hurting myself. He gave me the strength. He actually had the same problem, and he has quit too.

> Suicidal thoughts, mania, psychosis...this stuff will usually get you in a hospital if you want. Whoever interviews you in the emergency room or a crisis center will ask you if you can be safe and not harm yourself. If you answer no or you aren't sure, then they'll take you.

The doctors and nurses were all awesome. Good menus, lots of food, snacks, a kitchen, a TV room, a piano, painting supplies, passes to leave the ward for a few hours if they feel you have recovered enough to do that. I told the interviewer I needed a safe place to be because I was so depressed I did not trust myself.
