I believe you!

I have also noticed a difference between the brand and the generic, and I made a fuss to get answers. For me, the brand works geat, but the generics I've tried seem to fizzle and feel far less effective. My doctor explained that despite great intentions, and for whatever reason, somehow the generics might not be as carefully regulated by the FDA as the brand product. The major drug companies who are in the business of developing drugs are more visible and are supposedly just plain under more scrutiny than a manufacturor who is simply manufacturing generics. Also, the brand has far more at stake in terms of keeping their quality true-to-label and consistent---ie., their reputation, and keeping the fda happy with them overall. Well then- maybe as a result, the brand is more potent then, and not quite really the same dosage as what you are acccustomed to? And finally, I understand that the fillers (supposedly inactive ingredients) and composition, the way the tablets are made, etc--can vary in generics and hence in their effects. To me this all implies that the generics can sort of "go easy" on active ingredients (???) Message gleaned by me: The brand name drug is more potent. However, I saw in a book once that if a person finds a particular generic version works better than brand for them, keep asking pharmacy for the exact same generic, from exact same manufacturer. Find out who makes it.

Can you talk to your doctor or pharmacist? Though in my experience loads of pharmacists deny any difference between the generics and the brand. Sure would be nice if they could swap it out for you or something. Another thing I noticed is that if I take ritalin either with food or close before or after I eat- its effects seem dampend. On an empty stomache, it is way more potent. I also heard that vitamin C plus methylphenadate/ritalin makes the drug more potent. Not sure if that is true...

Good luck to you.

> Recently I have been very aggitated since before I was on generic ritalin until 1 week ago I started brand. The generic was wonderful but for some reason I have been thinking the brand is not the same doesnt work the same and it is very much making me angry. When stimulants work I feel great, but when I dont get the effect I want, I become pissy.
