Risperdal, .25 mg, awake and up 8# in 3 days

Posted by River1924 on July 16, 2006, at 2:12:10

Hello,

In one of life’s unfunny ironies, I began .25 mg of risperdal at bedtime on Wednesday in the hope it would help me be more organized and more active. Among other things I want to go about the business of losing 100 lbs (to reach about 15% bodyfat.) Well, it is now Saturday eve and my weght has increased from 306 (prior to any doses) to 310 (thursday night), to 312 (friday night), to 314 tonight. I’ve actually been exercising and haven’t been hungry. (For example, except for 2 eggs and a slice of toast, I forgot to eat on friday.)

Question 1. Is this eight pounds of water weight? I can’t conceive that I just gained eight pounds of body fat in three days.

Question 2. Can a low dose of this medication be stimulating? My past experience with this drug at 1 mg was that it made me thoughtful but pretty comatose. I might have taken two doses that time. I realize, my meds do work differently now. (I had 10 pints of blood removed last fall to get rid of excess ferritin (iron)and since then meds which did nothing (like provigil) work, meds that worked okay (like dexedrine) work almost too well and meds I found intolerable (like riperdal) seem tolerable and even work. My doc said .25 mg would do nothing but I feel better (even if I'm digusted by the scale.)

Any comments? River.
