I too am in search of a good DA. Previous massive self medication with meth has caused permanent (going on 20 years now) dysfunction of my D systems, and it is only getting worse as I age. My doctor and I have worked me through some, and have a plan for others:
Pergolide: though tested well as an adjunct AD, it seemed very 'dirty' to me, made me feel shaky, etc.
Abilify: Low doses of Abilify work pretty well for the zombie state I am normally in, but only for half day, whether I re-dose or not.
Parlodel: was great for my hyperprolactinemia, but had no effect on motivation, cognition, etc.
Amisulpride: Low doses of amisulpride are reportedly great for some people, but they made me sleepy and I personally cannot deal with that; I sleep enough already. So I don't know if that would have abated or not, sleepiness is the one SE I can't fight through.
Dostinex: Men tend to have reportedly good responses to Dostinex, and it is highly recommended by Chairman MOA, a babbler I trust.
Those left on my to do list are: Mirapex, Requip, Trivastal and Amineptine. Of course, the cruellest irony will be if the amineptine works and then I can't afford to actually take it. Its out there but VERY expensive.
My advice would be to be very careful with dopamine agonists, start very low and titrate very very slowly. Too-high dosing of these can make you dysfunctionally just crazy, there isn't another word for it. Upon too much Abilify the first time I took it, I became separated from the outside world, stuck in my own internal hell, anxious, permanently terrified, particularly of people, and was awaiting the hearing of voices. Schizo-affective? Don't know, but it was nasty. So do be careful with this class of drugs.
Good luck.
