2.5mg zyprexa is a pretty low dose, but the stuff is pretty powerful. The usual starting dose is actually 5mg and then 10mg is common. 20mg is the high end, but my pdoc says some patients take 30mg or 40mg.
I was on 5mg for several years. A few things to keep in mind. Antipsychotics are very hard to wean off of. Sedation at first can feel strong. Good for sleep. Any daytime grogginess should go away in a few weeks. Weight gain is common. My weight gain went away all by itself in about a year.
I was on 5mg for several years. Weaned off over 4 months (hard!), went 3 months med-free (hard!) and am back on 2.5mg but it doesn't feel like much.
