provigil prophylaxis

Posted by saturn on May 16, 2006, at 20:11:00

I'm going to try Provigil. However, I need to ask my doc to have something on board just in case my heart goes out of control, as it has a history of doing so with stimulants.

I realize Provigil is supposed to have minimal cardiovascular effects, but I am *very* sensitive in this regard. (Apologies for posting about this ad nauseaum).

There's still literature out there tsaying that provigil is a central alpha one agonist, though this seems to no longer be the case. Anyhow, would Coreg be appropriate to abort a crisis a situation where my heart is about to explode? (I don't hava asthma).

I'm not sure if it a beta blocker would increase the pressor effects of provigil as it may be regarded as a kind of atypical sympathomimetic.

(Ed, if you're reading this I think you mentioned that beta one specific antagonists do not increase pressor effects of sympathomimetics but non-selective agents will--do I have this correct?)

thanks, peace
