> I took it for the first time last night (3 mg) and woke about 3-4 hrs later. Took a 2nd dose and slept for nearly 7 more hours. Aside from the horrid taste, I feel great. I didn't feel rested after ambien, so I'll take the nasty taste. I'll try 3 mg again tonight, but wondering if I'll have the same problem. Thanks,

You might also try Ambien CR. Though I believe its a patent extender, it does theoretically provide controlled release through the night.

Servier (manufacturer) has tested Lunesta up to 3.5mg.

The lovely nickel taste with Lunesta (and zopiclone in Canada) is there to stay ... they don't emphasize that much with the beautiful CGI butterflies in the TV commercial. Its at least 30% of people reporting it. For myself, I just knew that, oh, the Lunesta was working. Some claim they feel it in the morning too. Taste is very subjective and psychological too.

I have seen a posting a newsgroup of someone who took 6mg. That doesn't necessarily mean it is safe -- should talk with your doctor and see if he's willing to compromise on a dose somewhere inbetween. I know insomnia can be horrid -- its also one of those things that the more one thinks about it, the more its there.

Cheers
