Recently had a reply regarding psychologists v. psychiatrists. I deleted it, I cant find it, and don't remember who it was, but I was wondering if anyone could help answer this question...this may sound a bit naive...
I have a psychiatrist that has been prescribing meds based on my symptoms (depression, anxiety, mood swings, irritability, and more.) She said that she does not do the diagnosis. She can only treat symptoms I have with medication that will help make me feel better. I feel I am missing part of the puzzle here and that I am speculating on what ails me, although the shoe fits.If the psychiatrist isn't trained to do the diagnosis, who is, and why does she give meds without a diagnosis? Is a psychologist the one that determines the diagnosis? How do they determine the diagnosis? I just wan't know what mine is- help.
