It depends. Seroquel made me crazy--crying, miserable, terrible dreams, muscle stiffness, drug-induced stupidity--at only 100mgs/daily. Hydroxyzine (atarax, vistaril) gave me this weird re-curring dream in which I was having an intense seizure (I've never actually had a seizure). I discontinued both meds...wasn't worth it. In addition..drugs don't really prevent violence, per se; they can sedate you and make you so sluggish and apathetic that you won't be capable of violence, but they don't do anything about the underlying issues...in that context,they basically function either as sedatives or chemical lobotomies.
