I tend to agree with CK1. When I was living in Washington D.C. I saw 5 pdoc and the 5th one said "yes, I agree, you should try an MAOI. They are good meds and I use them a lot.". So just keep trying until find one that does.

Good luck!

I would call UNC's Pyschiatry Department if they have one and see if they use MAOI's. I went to Dr. Donald Klein in New York, one of the most well-known pdocs in the country, and he still uses MAOI's quite a bit. I'm seeing this guy at Emory now because I live in Georgia and he's still using them a lot also. As I said, the better pdocs know how good these drugs are and still use them. I'll bet if you called 5 pdocs in your area, at least one of them uses them. They are more widely used than you would think. Just because your doctor doesn't use MAOI's doesn't mean that others aren't using them with great success.
> Some pdocs just don't care how long you suffer and will continue putting you on stuff that doesn't work that well but has less side effects whereas other pdocs recognize you have a life to live and therefore put you on an MAOI despite the risk of lawsuits and stuff. My old doctor didn't prescribe them solely because it wasn't "standard procedure" and if something went wrong and he was sued, he'd be liable whereas SSRI's are "standard procedures" so it's not all on the doctors shoulders. Some pdocs care more about what could happen to them than your health!
