Yes, unfortunately.

Nardil works by permanently shutting-down the factories (MAO enzyme) that are used to break apart excess serotonin in the neuron (nerve cell). The problem is permanence - the factories are essentially destroyed. Even after the last of the Nardil has disappeared from the body, the neurons must still rebuild a supply of factories. This rebuilding process can take two weeks. In the meantime, levels of serotonin begin to build up. When a SSRI or SRI drug is introduced before the factories have been rebuilt and operational, there is a high risk of a dangerous excess of serotonin that accumulates in the synapse (gap between neurons) that can result in a sometimes fatal reaction called serotonin syndrome.
