I don't have a goiter. The doctor I saw at the time checked and didn't find one.

I really think the vast majority of people don't get symptoms unless they are above (usually significantly above) 2.0. For example, I had symptoms but my TSH was 6.5. I really don't think it is worth going from 2 to 1, and it could definitely be harmful if you become hyperthyroid. If you have a goiter and normal TSH you could be in the early stages of hypothyroidism, meaning that at some point in the future you could become hypothyroid.
