I'm in the same boat you are. With at least 25 different combos under my belt, evertime I come off Nardil I become seriously depressed. You would think there would be something to mimic the effects, but I sure have not found it. Even with 90mg Nardil daily I feel I'm only about 75 to 80 percent recovered. The exception is the social anxiety, where the Nardil makes me better than I've been since grade school, and I'm 48 years old.I still have some augmentation strategies to try with the Nardil. One is to lower my Nardil dose to 60mg from 90mg and up my clonazepam from 1mg to 3mg. There are some studies that support this idea in long term unipolar depression. Another is to go back to a combination of Nardil and nortriptyline. Then adjust the dosage of each for the best effect. Some studies suggest that the augmentation of a MAOI with certain tricyclics can actually reduce the chance of a hypertensive crisis. This combination, if carefully and correctly administered, has been used for treatment resistant atypical depression.
This is just a couple of the things I want to try to treat my current dysthymia and control some of the side effects of high dose Nardil. Good luck, there is always something to try. I even have ECT saved for the last resort.
