Nardil update: almost on month three, I think

Posted by Chairman_MAO on July 21, 2005, at 16:53:16

About a week ago, I got sick of--despite 2mg/day cabergoline (near what some take for mild Parkinson's!) per day--having to spend 30+ minutes of vigorous (injurous without "exogenous" lubrication, heh) stimulation just to have a CHANCE of reaching orgasm. Thus, I made the following adjustment:

82.5mg phenelzine, down from 90mg. This is much closer to 1mg/kg for me.
2mg buprenorphine qid, down from 4mg qid. I am surprised to barely notice a difference between the dosages, except that I know if I weren't taking phenelzine this dose would likely work as an AD but not well enough for anxiety. That is, the 4mg qid definitely was a lot more calming when I was on tranylcypromine. However, since Nardil is so calming in the first place, I don't think I need this much anymore.

Now that about 5-6 days have passed since the adjustment, I am pleased to report that I had an orgasm (via masturbation) in under 10 minutes! The doctor who prescribes the Suboxone says that he has had virtually no complains about sex problems on it, vs. methadone which he says causes them all the time. He suggested that I lower the Nardil, so I did. I suppose I could've done this scientifically and tried lowering one vs. the other, but since the therapeutic dose of phenelzine is 1mg/kg, the 90mg was too high anyway (I weight 82kg, so my dose now is perfect).

Moral of the story (I suppose): if you know the therapeutic dose of a medication, try to match it as closely as possible. Keep in mind, though, that without the cabergoline things might still be problematic, though perhaps they wouldn't be. Still, so long as I am able to keep the cabergoline liquid (I get it as a research chemical) flowing, I will take it beacuse it just makes life nicer (more vitality and virility). It also eliminates the male refractory period due to potent prolactin suppression.
