Hi Tom..

Sorry to hear things are not going too well at the moment..

Have you only got 1 GP you can see at your practice?

I ask this because at mine ive got five. Three of these though I wouldnt even bother with even if I had the flu, they're absolutely usless to be honest. I use the other two, but mainly I just use one - and like you I thought he was getting sick of me at one point. But think of it like this, your GP gets paid close to £100,000 by the your Tax's, its his job to treat you and he gets well paid for it, don't think he's getting sick of you, get him to do the job his paid for!....and if he isn't try another GP at your practice, or maybe even get a new GP altogether in your area...

Another question I thought I'd ask is...is your GP aware of how serious your illness is?

Afew months ago I got a letter from my GP surgery, stating would I mind being put on a mental register at my GP practice which simply confirms I suffer from a severe mental illness..I just had to sign the form and return to them within one month and if they didnt recieve the form within one month or me telling them otherwise i'd be put on it anyway.

Did you get one of these?..I'm 99% sure its a routine NHS GP thing...

Well, at the time I was pretty down and didnt bother, so I was automatically added to it (at the time I really couldnt care a less either way) When I next saw my GP, he mentioned this form, and explained that it wasn't nothing serious really, it just states that I have signed seen the form and that they are doing everything that can to meet my needs...Hmm I thought nothing of it, until quite recently when I saw my psychiatrist and had alittle dispute with him over some medication and when I mentioned this to me GP he was very accomadating indeed...and I do wonder how much this form helped. Just thought that might be worth mentioning.

I would say the care i'm recieving is probably about as good it gets for the NHS (it could be better, but I think it could be alot worse) If I had the money and was staying in the UK i'd probably use Bupa if my health got bad again to be honest. I try to use the mental health services as less as possible, I never have had a CPN, counsiler or psychologist...simply because what with all the waiting involved to use these services I know that by the time I get them i'll probably be well again and therefore not need them.

I think though, that if your really having great probalems right now and your not getting anywhere with your GP or psychiatrist... if you was to go to the A&E, and speak with the on-call psychiatrist there, you'll be able to jump start the process and kick the NHS in to touch so to speak with treating you properly how they should be....what I mean is, hopefully they will start taking you seruiously and do their job to get you right. If theres a crisis - they have to act on it.

I hope things will improve for you soon..

Kind regards

Nick
