Cymbalta and alleviation of pain

I remember reading that Cymbalta/duloxetine is supposed to help allevate pain. Does anyone know the mechanism behind this? Do you know how Cymbalta helps pain? Do those of you who've been taking Cymbalta feel that it helps relieve joint pain, arthritis, etc?
