I'll give you my sucess and then the failure in my case.
Geodon is the only med that has ever worked for me. I've been on 15 or more. My doctor thinks I have all the negative symptoms of schizophrenia and none of the positive. The Geodon started working within a day and a half and continued to work like a charm for two months. It was a very dramatic response. The bad news is that it literally stopped working after those two months just like a light had been switched off. It just stopped working one night. It wasn't gradual it was instantaneous.
Another weird thing is that I was only taking a tiny 20mg dose. My doctor tried to raise it to 40mgs and I got insomnia and maybe a little anxiety and no benefit. We tried augmentation with Provigil, because after it stopped working I had this wierd sleepy dampening sort of feeling. That didn't work either and we eventually scrapped the Geodon after about 5 months of taking it.
Another good thing is that even though its positive effects on my motivation, zeal, affect, anergia, anhedonia, spontaneity, and overall expression faded my intrusive and ruminating thinking including suicide has not returned even during the two months I was on no medication.
I had a little faintness and dizziness in the beginning, but that passed.
The weird thing with me is that I can take a med and have horrible side effects or have it help somewhat and then 4,5,6 months later I can take the same med and have a totally different reaction. Makes me wonder even more about my brain.
Don't hold me to this, but I think alot of doctors think that if improvement is going to be made with an AP the results tend to be quick often times less than a week.
