Medication effects on the LIVER

Posted by Sarah T. on May 8, 2005, at 22:36:35

I have always had a difficult time metabolizing medications. I'm very sensitive to small doses, and I'm unable to tolerate most medication combos. Up until the past year or so, I was able to tolerate just a few combinations in tiny doses. In the last year, however, I've found that my ability to handle more than one drug at a time is completely gone, and I'm even having trouble with monotherapy of drugs I was able to tolerate in the past. When I've tried antidepressants and have to go on an antibiotic, for example, I have to stop the antidepressant until I've finished the antibiotics. I've even had extreme difficulty with some topical drugs that have some systemic absorbtion. Although my liver function tests have been normal, I'm wondering why I'm having so much more difficulty with any medicines, let alone drug combinations. Does anyone out there know whether it is possible to have liver damage and still have normal liver function tests?
