Provigil is a stimulant, unrelated to amphetamines and amphetaminic derivatives (like Ritalin). It has a long half-life, which is useful, because you won´t need to take it more than once (or twice) a day. That is also good because it doesn´t promote dose-escalation, so addiction may be not a problem as it is with schedule 2 stims (IR). It has fewer side effects than long-acting stims (adderall/concerta). Though, modafinil is not a weak stimulant. It works very effectively for the treatment of chronic hypersomnia and narcolepsy. These are its approved therapeutic uses. But modafinil may be also helpful for ADHD. In fact, I´m taking 100-200 mg/day of modafinil along with 40-60 mg/day of ritalin, for ADHD. And I can say that it acts as a memory booster and it improves executive functions and promotes wakefulness. But, sadly, its performance over impulsiveness and hyperactivity is quite poor. Despite this fact, it can be combined with ritalin or adderall for broader results.
