<<When you say Effexor is "activating" do you mean that it made you more anxious? I toggle back and forth between severe depression and severe anxiety>>
I don't mean to speak for Colleen, but just wanted to say my experience was that Effexor, in the beginning at least, was a more "activating" drug than most SSRIs in that it did not put me to sleep/make me feel sedated or lethargic. It did not contribute to my anxiety, which I also suffer from. I also have obsessions (not DX'ed OCD but I have anorexia & bulimia so all the anxiety and obsessions that go along with those can be overwhelming) and these improved a little.
<<You are the first person (who has posted) that did not have problems stopping Effexor. Maybe I will give it a shot.>>
I was on 450mg Effexor for a long time. I did not have "severe withdrawl" -- just headaches and I was very depressed, but I was already really depressed before I stopped the medication, as it had stopped working, so I don't think you could even count that under withdrawl symptoms. I hope this helps you decide whether or not to try it. I always say "try it" unless it's unapproved or dangerous or something, you know, because I am willing to try ANYTHING if it could be "the one" (or "ones") to make me feel better.
