Hi Betsey,

The woman I share with has MS and has a Betaferon injection every second day [had the choice of Rebif but was advised against it]and I know that it plays havoc with her moods, sleep, etc, on top of the MS which just plain sucks in so many ways. I also know if she misses a shot it's not good. She exhibits a lot of the symptoms of depression but will not acknowledge it - probably figures having the MS is enough to accept and deal with for one lifetime and I can't blame her.

I found Efexor-XR really good for my depression but it takes a while for your system to get used to it. Zoloft made it impossible for me to sleep whereas I was fine on the Efexor. Give it a week to settle and then anything up to about 6 weeks to start feeling the benefit. The anti-depressants are like the MS meds, in that you first have to find one that doesn't make things worse and then just wait and hope and see if it makes things better.

What type of MS do you have, relapsing-remitting or chronic progressive? My housemate's chronic progressive and been diagnosed about 20 years.

Let me know how you're going okay. I'll be thinking of you.
