When I think of schizophrenia, I think of a diagnosis in and of itself. This disorder being defined by an extreme altering of reality with key points being delusional/psychotic thinking, hallucinations -usually auditory, and disorganized thought and speech patterns.

I think one could have multiple mental illnesses and symptoms could overlap, but I'm thinking the degree of symptoms is probably the key point. Maybe the symptom overlap is where the referrence to: "schizophrenic illness" is derived. I'm not sure if that particular way of terming is an actual diagnosis versus more a description.

Also, psych meds overlap in their use and not all taking antipsychotics have actual psychosis.

I'm no expert and others may say different, but that's my understanding.
