Article: 50mg vs. 200mg Lamictal

Posted by theo on February 2, 2005, at 23:04:49

I found this interesting and also true about Lamictal for me. Not a huge difference in effectiveness at low dose versus high dose and much less side effects. FYI for patients starting, and told by doc to go straight to a high dose:

Lamictal - A seven-week study of 195 patients on Lamictal (either 200 mg/day or 50 mg/day) found 54 percent responded in the 200 mg group vs 48 percent in the 50 mg group vs 29 percent in the placebo group. Two 18-month studies found Lamictal was significantly superior to a placebo at delaying depressive relapses or recurrences. As an add-on, Lamictal led to improvement in symptoms in 72 percent of patients in one small open-label study.
